Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 2

Chris:
Does price matter the most? Does quality? Does style? Is there more than one factor that is important to your customer segment?
Price is most important to me when buying something non essential such as a toilet seat. Quality would matter though if it were a custom seat because it has to be better then what I originally have.
Is your segment more likely to buy online or in a store? Are they more likely to use cash or will they finance the purchase? Etc. If this is a B2B purchase, who's involved in the purchase decision?
I don't like to leave my apartment unless I have to so I would prefer to buy it online and I would pay on my debit card and not need financing. I would be the only person involved in this purchase decision.
What matters most to your customers when they think back on the 'rightness' of the purchase? What helps them determine the purchase was a good idea? What sorts of things make them think a purchase was a bad idea?
I would know I made the right purchase decision after trying the product. If i like it its a good decision, but if not it will be a bad decision to me and I will probably try to return the item if I kept the box.

For a product like yours I would say quality is most important because if im buying it im not concerned that much about the price. I would also want it to look good after customization so style would fall into second slot of the importance scale.

I would prefer to buy a product like this in the store so I could see it in person before buying it. This purchase would be in cash because it isn't like a car or anything where I would need a loan. I would be the one involved in making the purchase decision.
What matters most to your customers when they think back on the 'rightness' of the purchase? What helps them determine the purchase was a good idea? What sorts of things make them think a purchase was a bad idea?
I determine if it was a good purchase if I feel like the item I got was worth or exceeded the worth of the money I spent on it. If i feel I spent too much money for a bad product it becomes a bad purchase for me.

Alex:
Does price matter the most? Does quality? Does style? Is there more than one factor that is important to your customer segment?
The most important factor is price for me. I have to be able to afford it to buy it. Quality and style come next but are far form price on how important they are.
Is your segment more likely to buy online or in a store? Are they more likely to use cash or will they finance the purchase? Etc. If this is a B2B purchase, who's involved in the purchase decision?
I like buying online because it is easier to compare products not only or their price but also for the features they offer. I always want to pay in cash when I can and I usually am the only one involved in my purchase decision unless its a lot of money then I ask my parents for advice.
What matters most to your customers when they think back on the 'rightness' of the purchase? What helps them determine the purchase was a good idea? What sorts of things make them think a purchase was a bad idea?
If I like the product for longer then the day after I buy it that usually means it was a good purchase for me. This is decided by me using and testing the product myself to make sure it meets my needs. It is a bad buy for me if it doesn't meet the expectations I set for it.

Summary:
Price was overall the most important factor to people when making a purchase which makes sense because money runs the world. People also like to pay in cash because it is easy and requires no financing and online ended up being preferred over in the store for convenience reasons in this small sample. People usually know if they made the right buying decision based on if it meets their expectations after purchase, it it didn't then it was considered a bad buy.

  1. Hi Josh,
Interesting post! I agree with Alex, one of the people you interviewed, on a few things. I buy things offline more than infernos now because of the convenience and ability to compare prices very easily. For example, I don’t want to go to six different stores to check the price of the same jacket, I can go online and it does it for me. Price is one of the main factors when deciding to buy something or not, so I think it is important to keep in mind how well you can produce your product, while keeping it as cheap as possible.

  2. Hey Josh,
I think that you got some really good information from these interviews. I agree with Alex and Chris on the point that price is very important. Being a college kid, I have to make sure to budget my resources properly. I do like Steven's perspective about the cash too. Since it is not a major purchase, this would be the easiest way since it would not require taking money from a credit card company and having to pay it back. This was definitely a worth while homework assingment!
